Argentina has officially joined the BRI:

During a weekend of fruitful diplomatic activity, Chinese President Xi Jinping has welcomed Argentina into its global Belt and Road Initiative.

Both countries have come to an agreement on “jointly promoting the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road,” which marks Argentina’s entry into the initiative. Overall, Chinese companies invested more than $20 billion in non-financial direct investment on projects within the BRI countries in 2021, according to the Chinese commerce ministry. The BRI has been China’s trillion-dollar push to improve trade links across the world by constructing landmark infrastructure, and with the addition of Argentina, this is a major win for Beijing in Latin America.

The agreement came as a result of Argentine President Alberto Fernandez’s 3-day visit to China.
