GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Indianapolis Colts added to their lead against the Arizona Cardinals in the second quarter when a bad snap by Cardinals center Max Garcia that was too low and caused quarterback Kyler Murray to retrieve it in the end zone.
To try to avoid being sacked in the back of the end zone by the two rushing Colts defenders, Murray, with his back to the playing field, attempted to throw a pass over his head along Indianapolis’ sideline.
The officials immediately called it intentional grounding, which resulted in a safety to give the Colts a 9-6 lead with 4:25 left in the first half. That was the Colts’ first safety of the season and the sixth leaguewide.
