The Met Gala, or Met Ball, is undoubtedly one of fashion’s biggest nights. Celebrities go the extra mile to dress up in striking ensembles and statement jewels. This year’s Met Gala, centering on the theme of ‘Gilded Glamour’ will be a white-tie affair, meaning organisers and cochairs are expecting the best of the best formal looks from stars, as per Glamour magazine. With the extravaganza all set to take place on May 2, 2022, here is a lowdown of the best Met Gala looks from over the years.

1.    Cara Delevingne (2021)

Talking through fashion! Bold and beautiful, the diva walked the red carpet in a white bulletproof vest emblazoned with the phrase “Peg the Patriarchy”. The separates were designed by Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri. The model’s ensemble was all about women empowerment and gender equality. Cara opted for white pants and heels to complete her look. A messy hair look added to the finishing touches.

2.    Gigi Hadid (2021)

At last year’s gala, the supermodel turned heads in a monochrome Prada gown. She left many floored with her red hair transformation – a look that reminded many of the cartoon character, Jessica Rabbit. A high ponytail, tied together with a crystal-embellished Prada logo barrette, added oomph to her look. Gigi went for dramatic powder blue smoky eyes and the classic winged eyeliner. Her necklace and peep toes provided for the perfect amount of bling!

3.    Doutzen Kroes (2019)

Both safe and playful, this hot pink number was a sure winner, especially because 2019 was the year of tulle and Doutzen was bang on trend with her look! From luxury design houses to high-street brands, racks were filled with dresses, tops and skirts made from the tulle fabric that year. And the Dutch fashion model wasting no time in keeping up with the fad. Looking every bit a ballerina, Doutzen tied her hair in a bun, in order to keep the focus on her dress. She went for a red pout, intricate silver jewellery and shiny shoes.

4.    Bella Hadid (2018)

Bella left no stone unturned in putting an haute couture spin on the star-studded event’s theme, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” The all-black ensemble comprised a patent leather bustier top that featured exaggerated shoulders and fingerless gloves. She completed the look with a black and gold veil. Bella knocked it out of the park with a golden-pink lip and subtle cat eye.
