Govt simplifies inheritance procedures for overseas Pakistanis

  • Govt of Pakistan simplifies the process of resolving inheritance disputes for overseas Pakistanis.
  • The process will be managed through NADRA’s online facilitation unit.
  • There is only one facilitation unit operative in Islamabad dealing with properties/assets in Islamabad, but NADRA will establish more Facilitation units in other cities soon.

The government of Pakistan has simplified the previously cumbersome procedure for resolving inheritance disputes for overseas Pakistanis by introducing an online process.

Taking to Twitter, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Sayed Zulfikar Bukhari made the announcement and shared a copy of the notification issued in this regard.

“A big decision for #OverseasPakistanis & big leap towards resolving inheritance disputes,” wrote Bukhari.

“Today, in a landmark decision, [the] Cabinet [has] approved [the] succession certificates to be made a simplified online process via NADRA’s service. Previously a cumbersome process, this helps thousands of OPs.”

According to the notification, “upon the death of a family member, legal heirs languish in courts for years before they are able to obtain Letters of Administration (for immovable properties) and Succession Certificates (for movable properties.)

“Now, without going to the Courts, legal heirs can obtain the Letters of Administration or Success Certificates, as the case may be, through a quick, five-stage process facilitated by Succession Facilitation Units operated by the National Database Registration Authority.”

As per the notification, at present, there is only one facilitation unit operative in Islamabad dealing with properties/assets in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) only.

“Shortly, NADRA will establish many more Succession Facilitation Units in other cities of Pakistan.
